Report
It was a normal day, I was packing Christmas presents and my little brother came in to play some soccer. We were playing, when I fell and thought I twisted my foot. I looked up and saw my knee, which was dislocated and now looked really bad. I started hyperventilating and my brother got my parents. They called 911, who soon after arrived. In order to put me under anasthesia, for relocating the knee, and to numb the pain they administered 20mg Ketamine (Ketanest) and 2mg Midazolam. This is T + 00:00.
T + 00:02: The paramedics asked if I felt something yet, I said no, but after their remark I realised I stopped hyperventilating and stopped talking so much.
T + 00:03: I got really focused on the lamp over my head. I was so concentrated that I even overheard some of the things they said.
T + 00:10: Something changed. The light kind of changed, my knee felt different. I looked up and saw that my knee was back in place. I was confused, but realized it was the Midazolam, that made me black out. The hyperfocus on the lamp began again.
T + 00:13: They put me on a stretcher, and got me down the stairs. It felt like I was watching through a strangers eyes, a derealization. Still, I was focused on every detail. I saw my neighbors peaking out their doors, the lights in the hallway, the walls and everything. Even though I was hyperfocused, there were always small fractions that I blacked out at.
T + 00:15: I have been put into the ambulance and again, was hyperfocused onto the lamp.
T + 00:18: The hyperfocus was getting less, I turned to the right and saw the monitor. The paramedic was talking to me, and I listened.
T + 00:25 The ambulance arrived at the hospital. The drive was double the length my parents took to arive with their car. I got out of the ambulance and was carried into the hospital. The effects were now worn off.
They gave me some examinations and gave me crutches. It's three weeks later now and I still have to walk with them.
