Aporphine alkaloids are weak to moderate Psychedelic compounds. Not much is known about their pharmacology, but it is known that most act as dopamine D1 and D2 receptor agonists. Some, such as nuciferene inhibit dopamine reuptake and act weakly on 5-HT2A receptors depending on the dose.

Aporphine can cause sedation, euphoria, sexual arousal, formed hallucinations or altered states of consciousness in the 2-4 MG range. It is unknown how toxic these substances are, so Harm reduction practices are required in their pure forms.

These substances are rarely used, with the most common source being Nymphaea caerulea (Blue Lotus). It has proven effective when orally ingested or smoked.

The experience of these alkaloids is seldom negative or unpleasant, hinting that aporphine does not have acetylcholinergic or deliriant effect.
