N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT or N,N-DMT) is a hallucinogenic psychedelic compound of the tryptamine family. When ingested, DMT acts as an intense hallucinogenic drug.[1] Its presence is known to be widespread throughout the plant kingdom.[2][3] DMT is a close relative of the psychedelic drugs 5-HO-DMT and 5-MeO-DMT. Although various theories have been formulated, the compound's biological function has yet to be determined.
