Tunnelling can be described as a visual distortion which manifests spontaneously for temporary periods of time. Once manifested, it partially to completely alters the appearance of one's external environment into an all-encompassing tunnel of varying intensities. This experience results in the apparition of a large 3-dimensional tunnel in front of one's current field of vision.

In terms of its appearance, the tunnel can vary in its size, distance, orientation and colour. It is usually either comprised from the sensory data of one's vision, a single randomly chosen colour or a combination of many randomly chosen colours.
