"Derivative" can be a bit of a tricky word as its meaning can differ depending on whether it is used in, say, a strictly modern chemical context, or a looser historical one. I don't think it's necessarily wrong to say that 2C-x is a second-order derivative series of mescaline, with DOx being the first. The team has discussed this matter and decided on a clearer and more accurate way of wording the statement.
